Frequently asked questions

How do I get started?

Create your gym and add the machines it has — once, up front. From then on, start a workout at that gym and every machine is on one screen: walk up to one, tap it, log the set. No searching, no adding exercises mid-workout.

If you train at more than one gym, add as many as you like.

What does the “Last time” line on a machine show?

Your final set and set count from your previous workout on that machine, so you know exactly where you left off before you sit down.

How does set logging work?

A new set prefills from your last set — adjust with the ±5 lb / ±1 rep steppers or type exact values. Everything saves instantly; there is no save button. While you train, live stats show duration, total volume, and sets.

I use two gyms. Does my progress carry over?

Yes. Machines live in a shared catalog: link the same machine to both gyms — each with its own machine number — and it keeps one unified history. Your “Last time” numbers and progress graph follow you between gyms.

How does Apple Watch integration work?

Start a regular Strength Training workout on your Apple Watch when you begin, and XRCise pulls your heart-rate graph and active calories from Apple Health into that workout’s summary. XRCise only reads from Health — it never writes anything.

No Apple Watch? Everything else works exactly the same — heart rate and calories simply stay hidden.

Why is heart rate or calories missing from a workout?

Two usual causes: no watch workout overlapped that gym session, or XRCise doesn’t have permission to read from Health. You can check the permission under iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Health → XRCise.

I mistyped a weight. Can I fix it?

Everything is editable, during or after the workout: fix a weight or rep count, adjust start and end times, add a forgotten set, or delete a workout entirely. All stats — volume, graphs, muscle splits — recompute automatically.

How does iCloud sync work? Is my data backed up?

Your gyms, machines, and workout history are stored in your personal, private iCloud database and sync automatically between your devices. If you delete and reinstall the app, they come back on their own. There is no account and no sign-up.

No iCloud? Everything still works — your data simply stays on the device.

Can I export my data?

Yes — export your complete history to a JSON file anytime, and restore or merge it back whenever. It’s a plain, readable file that you keep wherever you like.

Why are there no exercise animations or photos?

On purpose. XRCise is geared towards people who already know their machines and just want their numbers logged fast. No animations, body diagrams, photos, or oversized graphics — everything stays compact and focused.

Can I track weights in kilograms?

Not yet — weights are tracked in pounds (lb) for now. If kilogram support matters to you, say so; it helps prioritize.
